LUIS JACOME, Ph.D.
ABOUT ME
Being born into a Christian home, my craving for knowledge was very limited. I was not allowed to question, let alone explore. My passion for science that constantly simmered inside in childhood was often restrained by the manacles of faith. I was told that the Earth was flat, then that it was placed in the center of the universe. I am glad that first Copernicus, then Galileo, set foot on nature's ground and put the Earth in its humble place as another planet that orbits our light- and life-giving star.
After removing the Gnostic shoes, with no hurdles to hinder my academic progress, I pursued my passion, my dream of becoming a scientist. I received my Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. More specifically, I defended my thesis, investigating the effects of drugs and hormones on cognitive and neural function.
I then acquired my postdoctoral training at Columbia University Medical Center, examining the effects of chronic stress on learning and memory dysfunction, and at Eastern Virginia Medical School, testing the effects of NMDA receptor interventions on an animal model of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). As a result, my research work has been disseminated at scientific conferences nationwide and published in peer-reviewed journals. My latest publication can be found in the April edition of Endocrinology (See Science Journals page).
"Reflections of Dreams" is the first of, what would most likely be, a number of books. The Spanish version of the novel "Reflections of Dreams" was translated and published in 2017 with the title "Reflejos de Sueños."
My motto is that "there is only one reality in the universe, the perception of which is infinite." My perception of reality is that we live once. So let's explore and live it to the fullest!
